Elle est bord\u00e9e par la\u00a0mer d&rsquo;Andaman\u00a0au sud et par le\u00a0golfe du Bengale\u00a0au sud-ouest, avec environ 2\u00a0000 kilom\u00e8tres de c\u00f4tes au total.<\/p>\n<p>Le pays conna\u00eet depuis\u00a01962\u00a0une succession de\u00a0dictatures militaires. De\u00a01988\u00a0\u00e0\u00a02011, la Birmanie a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement dirig\u00e9e par une\u00a0junte militaire, consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une des pires dictatures de la plan\u00e8te. La junte a officiellement laiss\u00e9 la place en\u00a02011\u00a0\u00e0 un pouvoir civil dirig\u00e9 par l&rsquo;un de ses anciens membres, mais le poids de la hi\u00e9rarchie militaire reste pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rant dans les faits.
